What is a paper machine?
2024-10-24
The paper industry consumes a large amount of raw materials, water, electricity, and chemical agents, and generates a significant amount of wastewater and waste residue.
The paper machine is a complete set of equipment that forms paper sheets from pulp through a series of interconnected components, including the pulp flow box, wire section, pressing section, drying section, calender, reel, and main drives, as well as auxiliary systems such as steam, water, vacuum, lubrication, and heat recovery. The wire section, which forms the wet paper sheet, is the core of the paper machine, so paper machines can be classified into long wire paper machines, twin-wire paper machines, and round wire paper machines based on the structure of the wire section.
The pulp flow box is the equipment that uniformly and stably delivers pulp of appropriate concentration to the wire through components such as the pulp distributor, rectifying device, weir pool, and weir nozzle, also known as the headbox; after the pulp is sprayed onto the copper wire from the flow box, a wet paper sheet is formed on the wire section and dewatered; this is followed by pressing, which mechanically squeezes out the moisture from the wet paper sheet that comes out of the wire section, increasing the dryness of the sheet while improving its surface properties, eliminating wire marks, and enhancing smoothness, tightness, and strength; then it enters the drying section, where the dewatered wet paper sheet is further dried, causing the sheet to shrink, the fibers to bond tightly, and the strength to increase.
After the paper sheet comes out of the drying section and is calendered, it can improve the smoothness, glossiness, and tightness of the paper sheet, ensuring uniform thickness across the entire sheet and reducing air permeability; finally, the reel converts the paper sheet into rolls, completing the main process of papermaking. To meet different future needs, there are also super calenders, rewinding machines, and cutting machines set up after the reel in the papermaking workshop.
The paper industry consumes a large amount of raw materials, water, electricity, and chemical agents, and generates a significant amount of wastewater and waste residue. Therefore, the future of paper machinery will develop towards the use of widely available paper raw materials, reducing material and energy consumption in the papermaking process, and minimizing environmental pollution.
